Congratulations to Michael Cook, who has been selected as a finalist in the 2026 National Photographic Portrait Prize with his work, ‘Walkabout’.

Opening today at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra, the exhibition brings together finalists from across Australia in one of the country’s leading awards for photographic portraiture. A selection of works will tour to regional galleries across Australia.

We are delighted to present ‘The moon’s raining’, an online exhibition by Tim Price, his first with the gallery.

Tim Price is a Sydney-based painter whose practice unfolds through an ongoing dialogue between observation, imagination, and the experience of painting itself.

“I’ve been painting everyday things from around the city. Ordinary moments drift into view while I’m walking, a plane flying in over the buildings and trees, flowers growing in the suburbs. They feel meaningful and beautiful without having an obvious reason why. One of the wonderful things about being alive is finding magic in the everyday. In the same way someone might buy a lottery ticket or watch the footy for a bit of excitement, I stop to look at flowers in the suburbs.” - Tim Price.

’The moon’s raining’ is now showing exclusively online until 5 September.

COMING SOON - Adam Pyett, ’Stories of daylight’

Adam Pyett has spent years painting around the Macedon Ranges, a region whose volcanic landscapes, dense forests and distinctive light have long inspired artists, writers and visitors alike. It is a place where geology, history and imagination sit unusually close together. For tens of thousands of years, the Country has been cared for by the Traditional Owners of the Kulin Nation. Later came the goldfields, pastoral settlements, grand gardens, and generations of painters, each leaving their own mark upon the landscape. It is a place layered with histories, where every return offers another way of seeing. Pyett’s paintings quietly enter this ongoing conversation, recording not simply what is seen, but what it feels like to return.

’Stories of daylight’ will be showing in the gallery from 2 - 26 September.

Congratulations to Monica Rohan who is a finalist in the 2026 Mosman Art Prize.

The Mosman Art Prize is Australia’s premier open painting prize open to entrants from across Australia over the age of 16.
Each year the winning artwork is acquired forming the basis of the Mosman Art Collection.
Now in its 79th year the Mosman Art Prize has provided a historical timeline of contemporary painting practice in Australia.
