Laura Patterson winner of Hadley Residency Prize 2024

Congratulations to Laura Patterson who has been awarded the 2024 Residency Prize of the Hadley’s Art Prize!

Congratulations also to Iluwanti Ken and Zaachariaha Fielding who received Honourable Mentions. The judges Tina Baum (Curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art at the National Gallery of Australia), Jane Devery (Senior Curator of Exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art) and Dr Neil Haddon (Associate Head of Art at the University of Tasmania and artist) said of Laura’s work; “A beautiful painting which feels both familiar and haunting. With evocative filtered light, there is a sense of moisture and dampness that make you really feel like you’re in the place. We were impressed with how the artist articulated her proposal for this residency and what it would mean for her creative practice with the opportunity for plein-air studies in Tasmanian national parks and the chance to experiment with scale.”

The ancient rainforest ferns of Tasmania have been Laura’s painterly muse for the last few years and we look forward to seeing the works resulting from the one month residency in Hobart.
